Could be a wire crossing in the speakers, the radio itself might be bad. Does it do it all the time? Speakers might be blown. Or, your antenna lead is not plugged into the rear of the radio. Is it radio static, or does it have static on cd/tape as well?
The reason your Samsung Meteor Mic may have static when you run it through an extension cable is because of the extra cable length. Try unplugging the extension cable and see if that helps. If it does not help, the mic may be going out.

Speakers generate sound by electricity. have you ever heard that static on your tv headphones? that's the transmitter trying to connect to the tv. The elecricity travels to the speakers and 'tells' them what to do. it then emits your average sound.
