What was the flag that flew over the 13 colonies?

The original 13 Colonies were British settlements. The first unique flag of the 13 Colonies was the Grand Union Flag also called the Continental Colors. It was a British Red Ensign flag with 6 white stripes sewn on it making 13 alternating red and white stripes. Instead of stars in the upper left corner of the flag there was the British Union Jack which was the combination of the flag of England (the red vertical-horizontal St. George's cross) and the flag of Scotland (the white diagonal corner to corner St. Andrews cross).

How and why did the flag change over time?

The American flag has continued to be under change because each star you see in the blue upper left corner represents a different state in the country. There are 50 states, thus 50 stars are located on the flag. Now the 13 red lines represent the main 13 colonies from back in the day when the US was still under British rule.

Has the Venezuela flag changed throughout the country's history?

The current flag of Venezuela was introduced in 2006. The basic design includes a horizontal tricolor of yellow, blue, and red, dating to the original flag introduced in 1811, in the Venezuelan War of Independence. Further modifications have involved including a set of stars, multiple changes to the placement and number of stars and inclusion of an optional coat of arms at the upper-left corner. During the first half of the 19th century, seven stars were added to the flag to represent the seven colonial provinces of Barcelona, Barinas, Caracas, Cumaná, Margarita, Mérida, and Trujillo that had united against Spain during the War of Independence. After the Guayana campaign, Simón Bolívar added an eighth star to the national flag (the so-called Flag of Angostura) in representation of the newly freed province.

How do you pass a folded American flag to another person ie during a military retirement ceremony by Passing of the Flag detail?

When holding or carrying the flag it should be against your chest with your left middle finger tip over the right middle finger nail with both hands flared (i.e. flat with all fingers together). Once you are ready to pass the flag slowly bring your right hand up and grasp the left side by the point and slowly turn the flag so the point is facing down. Keep your left hand on the flat and once the flag is turned grasp it with the left hand and lower the flag until it is parrallel to the ground. At this point the person receiving the flag will take it, left hand on top and right hand on the bottom (flared), and slowly bring it to their chest placing left middle finger back over the right like stated above. The passer of the flag will render a 3 second salute.
