Economic:
Yes, tourism harms the environment. Anything that humans do in large numbers harms the environment. With the exception of hiking and biking (and the minimal number of places that utilize natural forms of energy are for transportation) all travel and tourism uses energy from fossil fuels for transportation, which harms the habitat from which the fuels are extracted, depletes those resources, pollutes the environment when transported to the point where they're used and pollutes the environment when they're used to transport tourists. Natural places are modified for tourist accommodation and activities; the more space used for tourism displaces the more natural spaces are destroyed and the species who depended on that habitat are displaced or destroyed.
Tourism is not 100% a bad thing. People do need to make a living by taking advantage of the resources available to them. People also are enriched by the experience of travel and tourism by taking them out of their own sphere of knowledge and exposing them to new people and new cultures. Some efforts are already being made to use more environmentally friendly means for ground transportation but all air transportation and most water transportation still use forms of energy that harm the environment.
people have to travel there, and bus, cars , planes or any other kind of transport are all bad for the environment. also people drop litter and many people bring disposable items to avoid carrying things round or washing up :) hope that helps x
People bring money to a community when they travel and many towns, states, and countries spend money on ads to get people to come. To some extent lots of people do cause traffic jams, pollution, and crime but the good is more than the bad.
World Wide Tourism - either on Land or on Water - brings Dollars to residents as a incentive to Keep What They Have, for Show!; rather than deplete it into Oblivion.
pollution can make it bad
it is very bad for the environment

Tourism has an enormous negative impact on the environment, both natural and man-made.
There are three types of tourism: 1. Sustainable tourism. 2. Heritage tourism. 3 Ecotourism. Ecotourism basically is a type of tourism, which bases its tourist attractions and leisure activity on the environment. For example the Safari in Kenya.
The income tourism brings can be used to improve the environment.

I beleive it is not if the tourists are careful and that they respect the environment. A classic example would be responsible garbage disposal, if tourists from around the world know how to properly dispose waste then they will not have a problem in pollution or garbage.
Consumptive tourism involves tangible products extracted from the natural environment. ex: fishing
bad and good depending on what you do :)
