The reason diesel is used in a lot of larger equipment is because diesel engines get better gas milage, and have more torqe or towing power. Its not used in smaller cars because they are very loud and the exhaust is a lot more harmful to the enviroment.

Is diesel better then gasoline?

Not necessarily, they have different uses. Gasoline is better in small, high revving engines and diesel is much better for larger, slower engines in general.

What year did unleaded gas start?

Unleaded gas was first started in the mid 1970's as a way to combat the smog in the larger cities. All vehicles manufactured after 1986 were required to operate completely on unleaded gasoline.

Is catalytically cracked gasoline unleaded?

Catalytic cracking breaks down larger organic molecules in petroleum into smaller pieces. It doesn't in itself produce "leaded" gasoline, though lead antiknock compounds (or other additives) may be added afterward.

How many gallons of gas does a delivery truck hold?

It all depends on the Truck. Anywhere from 30 gals to 150+ gals on the larger ones for gasoline. The larger Semi delivery trucks can have 400+ gal of diesel. Times that by the $ per gal of diesel which is more then Premium gas here in the states.

What types of vehicles do you work on in a diesel mechanics school?

Most diesel mechanics work primarily on larger trucks such as tractor trailers, dump trucks, buses, and larger delivery trucks, along with construction equipment and generators. Diesel cars and pick up trucks will come up, but not as much as the aforementioned vehicles and engines.

What happens if you put unleaded petrol in your car instead of leaded?

Where are you at? I haven't seen leaded gas or petrol since I was in grade school. They used to call it "regular" and there was that and diesel until they decided the lead in gasoline was bad for us and started offering unleaded. Eventually, every gas station in the U.S. phased regular gas out. If you have an old car from the days of leaded petrol, you'll probably have to put unleaded in it some time (unless you live in a country where they still have leaded gas at the stations). If you put unleaded gas in an old car, you can get a fuel additive to protect the engine from the harsher fuel. Over time, using unleaded in an old engine can cause some of the gaskets to dry out and start leaking. It won't hurt just one time, but it's an accumulative effect if you do it all the time.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of a diesel power plant?

The diesel engine is also known as a compression ignition engine to distinguish it from gasoline or spark ignition. Thermodynamically the diesel engine cycle is more efficient than gasoline (Otto cycle) because efficiency increases with compression ratio. Gasoline would ignite at compression ratios over 10 because of the heat generated during compression of the air and gasoline vapor. Diesel fuel is injected into the cylinder at much higher pressures than allowable in gasoline engines. Diesel power plants are efficient but the fuel is to expensive. Coal and natural gas are much cheaper fuels. Diesel fuel is more stable than gasoline (does not form a sludge easily like gasoline does) and therefore the engine and fuel can be left on standby for long periods. This makes diesel a good choice for emergency back up such as in fire protection systems and standby generators. Small scale diesel generators have lower capital cost than a boiler and steam turbine, which would be orders of magnitude larger in size. Also, steam power plants need a staff of operators.

How is premium unleaded gasoline obtained?

The basic ingredients of gasoline are obtained by separation of crude oil or cracking (turning larger carbon chains into smaller ones that can be used). The premium refers to how good and 'pure' the fuel is; it has been cleaned of any damaging particles or unusable carbon fractions. The unleaded refers to the fact that lead has not been added. This was a common practise to help increase the efficiency until it was banned because it caused toxic lead pollution.

What can be used to extinguish a fire at a gas station?

The best tool to extinguish a small gasoline or diesel fire is a portable fire extinguisher. If the fire is small and you have a portable extinguisher, you should attempt to extinguish the fire.If you cannot extinguish the fire and it continues to get larger, get away from the vehicle. There may be toxic fumes and the possibility of an explosion.Never apply water to a gasoline or diesel fire.

Is gasoline or naphtha a larger molecule?

Does any manufacturer produce a backup generator that can run on gasoline or ethanol or methanol?

Yes, generators are manufactured that can run on these products. The overlying factor is how large a KVA generator is needed for backup. If a large size generator is needed, the gasoline engine driving the generator may not have enough horsepower to do the job when compared to a diesel engine. Larger gasoline engines consume much more fuel per HP than do diesel engines, if cost is a factor in the equation as to what engine should be used to drive the generator.

What model of Ford truck has a diesel engine?

The F-250 and larger trucks can have diesel engines in them.
