It depends on what you mean by bad. The sound quality doesn't sound the same as using actual instruments. In some ways, the music is too good. The subtle variations could be part of what keeps you captivated. Today's computer generated music all sounds the same and lacks the natural variations. You are just looping samples. Even the amount of talent is less, and people are lazier. Less talent is needed since the computers can do most of the work, and then the way the modern media works, they will promote anyone that they feel they have a reason to promote. So with canned computer sounds, autotune voice technology, and enough media and promotion, anyone could in theory be made into a celebrity.
For amateurs, using computers to make music is bad because you don't have all the right equipment. The sound card and some software is not enough. If you really want to make some music, plug in some industry standard keyboards and a $20,000 board for your computer. Then you might stand a chance.
