Vegemite is an acquired taste and personally I think the stuff is filthy. Nevertheless I am still getting it for my grandchildren.
There are many thing that have strong flavours that take a little time to get used to, for example I love salted herring and Dutch licorice - the taste of something can take a bit of time to get used to but when one does it is usually worth it, even if it is not good for you.
People like vegemite because it tastes good, I love vegemite and I live in Australia, it is also the fact that many children are brought up on vegemite so people get used to the taste. Vegemite is also healthy aswell and has a very unique taste, very salty however.
