Violence is a branch of the question, what happens when A mixes with B, or more often what happens when Machine A mixes with Human B.
Violence is just a way to answer that... "I wonder what it looks like when someone gets their hand chopped off with a machete", or "how many bullets can someone really take?".
Not to mention, a lot of us enjoy pain, some people won't feel satisfied from a fight if they don't walk away without a bloody nose. Injured warriors bearing battle scars as they triumphantly walk away from the battlefield after having endured unimaginable pain and odds, only to come out as the victor.
