Why is wash DC called wash DC?

Washington, is named after George Washington, and D.C. stands for District of Columbia. I'm not sure why they added D.C., though. I suppose this answer could use improving.

Washington DC is a 10 square mile area set aside for the legislative branch of the united states. The 13 colonies set this branch up to settle processes of common law and to handle things that the United States did not want to settle. For example, slaves and North American Indians. Neither slaves nor North American Indians are American Citizens because they were 'bounty' that were won in wars.

When the Fourteenth Amendment to the Constitution was ratified, Both the slaves & North American Indians won by the confederacy became the property of the united states or 'Federal Government' that the American States set up. They became naturalized citizens, but will never be American Citizens because the States handed their jurisdiction over to the 'Federal Government'.
