Well, a chair is a solid because it's a CHAIR! A chair couldn't exactly be a liquid, it would just spill everywhere and you couldn't sit on it. Same with if it was a vapour. It would float away. If you put a chair in water it wouldn't dissolve so it is very solid thankfully. If chairs weren't solid then we would never be able to sit on them. We would have to sit on the ground all the time.

a table is solid because all its particules are close together and it is hard to pull them apart or push onto it (trying to break it) go on this website, look closerly and learn what it says on the picture and then carry on reading other wise the sentance/paragraph won't make sence. for some reason when i save it doesn't work so go on www.Google.com and type in the search box "particles of solid liquid and gas" go on images and then click on the first image. here look closely at the particules of solid, liquid and gas u can see the particules of gas arnt close together an so the are spreaded out like a gas, the liquid is like say water they are joined together like a solid paritucles but a bit more spaces. holla..

Wood, being structurally rigid and resistant to changes of shape or volume, is therefore a solid.
