The answer to this is subjective, but it's good for everyone to at least be exposed to how to build simple things with wood. Learning correct joinery and how to use basic tools is a useful skill. This class is maybe not as important as math classes or science, but it still very useful. Later in life, you may want to be able to do basic woodworking or repairs, and a wood shop class will prepare you for that.
There are a variety of wood shop classes that are free to the public and all one needs to do is to register. Alternatively the price for a wood shop class can range from $30 to $60 for a course, so its relatively inexpensive.
Wood skills are an important part of building and furniture construction. These skills are to be more enhanced as wood is a renewable resource and skills in this medium are important for the future. Plus there are skills used in wood craft that are transferable to other trades i.e. tool making. The knowledge base is also useful. Maths and technical drawing are engineering skills as well as wood skills and are even used in other tool trades
you gotta be interviewed to see if you qualify to run a shop class. if they don't have shop teacher than they'll have to see if your good with wood at least and it would be better to have experience as metal
