Why is your 1998 Monte Carlo overheating after the engine has been rebuilt changed the thermostat and tried bleeding the system and it will only blow cold air but overheats?

Check the heater core; either it or the lines running to it are clogged.

How are you verifing the engine temp? I would suspect one of 2 things. possibly it is not overheating, the temp sensor is causing faulty gauge readings, in which case change the sensor. If it is overheating check to be sure the exhaust sytem is not blocked, possibly bad catalytic converter.

A thermostat that is stuck in the closed position is a very common cause of overheating. A new thermostat should be installed every time the coolant is changed.

Check the thermostat first. I had an intermittent overheating problem on my 02 for almost a year, changed the thermostat and it never happened again. If that doesn't work, secondly I would check the water pump.
