You didn't say what you were working on, But it sounds like you have a bad wheel bearing Assembly and the front axel is moveing around and has gotten into the brake sensor sometime are another. Check and replace wheel bearing and sensor as needed.
Bring to a shop that has an ABS scanner to determine problem with ABS light Sounds like rotors may be out of round causing shimmy need to be resurfaced or replaced
The ABS light might have come on after a rear end collision on a 1997 Aerostar because part of the brake mechanism was damaged in the collision. It is also possible that the ABS light came on because the rim was bent in the collision.
on a 2000 dodge ram 1500 the abs sensor is located on the rear end above where the drive shaft meets the rear end, if it is bad there will be a brake light on in your dash and may rev high in first gear before shifting into second If it has 4 wheel abs there will be a sensor at each front wheel bearing.
I wonder if one of the ABS fuses is bad ?
Broken sensor in the front end most likely. Especially if someone's been tinkering up there. I broke a wire in ours putting new struts in.
The rear ABS sensor should be in the gear box (i can't remember the exact term) in your rear end. The front ABS sensors are in your wheel hubs...
You probably have a bad speed sensor. I believe your 1997 Ram 3500, only has a rear ABS system. The speed sensor should be located in the rear end, located at the top of the pumpkin. Look for the wire harness coming from it. Hope this helps. Take it to a professional and have the ABS looked at. Not a repair for a novice. I have a 1996 Dodge ram 3500 and after I lost my right front caliper my abs light stays on and I don't have use of my abs. Sometimes my brake light comes on and stays on until I shut off the truck and restart it. any how you should have all wheel abs! there is a wire the follows your front brake line into the hub area and that is your front speed sensor. I tried plugging in a tester for the abs and it read no trouble codes, my only option is to replace the speed sensor on my right front or tear into the harness in the dash where I was told that dodge's are notorious for having a loose connection.
it could be anything from a bearing to the splash shield on the brake rotors.
Bring to a shop that has both a engine and ABS scanner to determine problems or clear codes Rotors may need to be re-surfaced or replaced to eliminate "bouncing"
Change the sensor located on rear-end housing
yes. I'm not sure if the speed sensors for the ABS are located at the wheels or in the diff though. if they're at the wheels then you may be able to remove them from the old axle and attach them to the new, "non-ABS", axle and make it an ABS system.
There is an ABS wheel sensor mounted on the front steering knuckle - check it out for damage, wiring problem (pinched off or broken?), and the alignment to the end of the axle where the ring of gear teeth are. See "Related Questions" below for more
