There are two main causes of a 4 stroke outboard "making oil." This problem occurs when fuel by-passes the rings in the cylinder bore. As this excess fuel settles in the oil sump, it raises the oil level, giving the appearance of additional oil.

The first cause of this condition is improper engine break-in proceedure. The engine trim needs to be all the way down, causing a heavy load on the engine, so that it will work hard pushing the load. This is done in an attempt to cause the rings to seat during the run-in period. This condition is also common to engines subject to long periods of trolling, or slow speed operation, where the engine may not come up to normal operating temperatures.

Can you use 2 cycle engine oil in a lawn mower?

Depends on the lawnmower. Some older lawn mowers used two-stroke engines, and you mixed the two-cycle oil with the gas. But 99% of modern lawnmowers use a four-stroke engine with a crankcase. So if the question is: "Can I use two-cycle oil in the crankcase?" the answer is an emphatic NO. It will likely destroy the engine.
