Why is your skin drying out?

The question would be better put if you asked why does the skin get darker during summer. the light colour is the normal natural colour.
The skin darkens during summer because it is more exposed to sun's rays. the rays that make it to your skin are made up of ultraviolet radiation. These are UVA and UVB.

UVB is the radiation that burns the upper layers of skin and is the cause of sunburns, UVB radiation penetrates to the lower layers of the skin, resulting in a tan. This is the result of the introduction of malanin being produced by cells known as melanocytes in an attempt to protect your skin from being damaged by the suns radiation. the darker colour attained is meant to be a protective layer.
In other words the lighter colour of your skin is the natural colour of your skin when it is not concerned with protecting itself against damaging radiation.

As some believe that skin lightens during winter i think the answer is not completly correct.It has been noticed that in some places during winter the skin darkens. Its because as i think.. the skies are clear in winter and more UV rays penetrate. and also due to low temperature the o zone thickness reduces and it actually allows more UV rays to penetrate which darkens the skin further

I think its because your skin needs moisture, and for some reason the cold takes most of the moisture out of ur skin, so use a normal, unfragranced moisturiser :D
