From the book, it says that its bad To Kill a Mockingbird because they do nothing but make beautiful music for the enjoyment of others. They don't hurt people, they aren't nuisances, they do nothing evil. They only make music (chirping) for others to enjoy. So to kill something like that, or eliminate a pure source of joy, is. in a sense, a sin, and something that is bad to do. There ya go. It can be applied not only to mockingbirds, but to all things of that nature. That's what Lee Harper was getting at when she wrote the book, basically. The mockingbird is a just a symbol of something like that. Hope that helps!!
