Very few members of the community know what release actually entails, and those who do just accept it as a necessary component of life in the community that makes their peaceful and uncomplicated life possible.

In "The Giver," the concept of release is not upsetting to the community because the citizens have been conditioned to believe it is a compassionate way to handle individual situations. They are taught not to question the authorities and trust that release is the best solution for maintaining order in their society. Additionally, the true nature of release is kept hidden from the citizens, so they do not fully understand the implications of this practice.
