Lunar eclipses are not dangerous. They occur when the Earth's shadow falls on the moon, so that the full moon becomes very dim. On the other hand looking at a solar eclipse can be very dangerous. That's because even a tiny fraction of the sun is so bright it can permanently damage your eyes if you look directly at it.

The orbit of the moon is not perfectly uniform about the earth (the same can be said about the planets orbiting the sun). The alignment of the earth moon and sun has to be perfect for an eclipse to occur, it rarely is though.
