So that it's more slippery.
The purpose of putting oil in a strut insert is to ward off corrosion inside of the unit. The oil also makes it possible to take the parts apart again if needed.
bounce before and after to check the shocks
Preform a bounce test before you fitted the sturt and then again after you have fitted the strut to make sure the bounce is similar to what it needs to be.
Before fitting a McPherson strut, I ensure to inspect the strut assembly for any signs of damage or wear, such as leaks or cracks. I also check the mounting points for rust or corrosion and verify that all necessary components, like the spring and top mount, are in good condition. Additionally, I confirm that the vehicle's alignment settings are correct to prevent any issues after installation. Lastly, I ensure that all tools and parts needed for the installation are ready and compatible.
To remove the air hose from a 1998 Cadillac STS strut, first, ensure the vehicle is safely lifted and supported. Locate the air hose connected to the strut, typically found near the top of the strut assembly. Use a pair of pliers or your fingers to gently squeeze the hose clamp (if present) and pull the air hose off the fitting. Be cautious to avoid damaging the hose or the fitting during removal.
First you will need to support the hatch so that is does not fall down on top of you when you pull one of the struts off. The struts have clips on the top and bottom of each strut. Use a small flat head screw driver and insert it under the clip to release it, (you do not have to pull the clip all the way out) just leave the screw driver in place to the clip is released. Then pop off the end of the strut, use this method for the remaining ends. To install the new strut just simply push the strut onto the ball support on both ends.
The low side service fitting is located near the right side of the strut tower (inner) near the fire wall. It is located on the upper a/c metal/rubber hose. The high side fitting is located on the lower a/c refrigerent line to the left side of the right strut tower. Hope this helps
All Toyota Camry's have struts in the front. This is also accompanied with strut mounts and bearings that are located between the mount & strut. I highly recommend replacing the mounts & strut bearings with the struts. My experience has shown that the mounts fail before the strut.
To replace the trunk strut on a 1999 Ford Contour, first, securely prop the trunk open to prevent injury. Use a socket wrench to remove the bolts securing the old strut at both ends. Carefully detach the old strut and align the new strut in place, securing it with the bolts. Finally, repeat the process for the other strut if necessary, ensuring everything is tightened properly before closing the trunk.

To replace the strut mount on a 2007 Buick Lucerne, first, safely lift the vehicle and remove the front wheel corresponding to the strut you are replacing. Then, detach the strut assembly by loosening the upper strut nuts under the hood and the lower bolts at the steering knuckle. Replace the old strut mount with the new one, reassemble the strut assembly, and ensure all nuts and bolts are securely tightened before reinstalling the wheel and lowering the vehicle. Always consult a repair manual for specific torque specifications and safety precautions.
if you've never done it before i would just order a complete strut -monroe makes a quik strut(a completely assembled strut).take off 2 bolts that hold strut on bottom along with misc. hardware that is attached. in engine compartment take off 3 top bolts holding it in strut tower.DO NOT LOOSEN THE CENTER BOLT IN THE TOWER.reverse to reassemble. take for front end alightment
