Best Answer

It is the best indicator for the situation. For other combinations of acids and bases other indicators are suited better. mostly it is because of how easy their colour changes or how obvious they are.

discussion for the titration of NaOH and HNO3 by using phenolphthalein & methyl orange indicators

Why methyl orange used in the titration?

Methyl Orange is used as an indicator in a titration. It helps us to know the end point of a titration and when do we stop adding the acid or the base. It is yellow in bases, orange in neutral compounds(thats the colour of methyl orange at the end point) and red in an acidic medium.

What tools are used during and acid-base titration experiment?

Burette Methyl orange Phenolphthalein Pipette

What is the color of the end point for the titration of the acid?

A general acid-base titration may not indicate a color change. Therefore an indicator is used. Among the most used indicators are methyl red, methyl orange and bromothymol blue.

Can you use indicator other than phenolphthalein in the titration of NaOH?

Yes you can use methyl red, methyl orange, bromophenol blue and other indicators instead of phenolphthalein in the acid-base titration of NaOH.

Why methyl orange is used instead of phenolphthalein in hcl and naoh titration?

This is so since the pH at the end point of Phenolphthalein is 9.1 and methyl orange is 3.7. For a strong acid strong base titration which the end point is between 3-11 phenolphthalein is used

What indicator will be used in standardization of sulfuric acid against sodium carbonate?

In this experiment, methyl orange is used because: Its end point matching the equivalent point of the acid-base titration.

Why is thymol blue used as the indicator for titration of acetic acid and naoh?

An indicator that changes its colour around pH value 5 should be used in this titration. Alternatively, instead of Thymol Blue, Methyl Orange or Methyl Red may be used.

What colorimetric pH indicator should you use for ammonia and hydrochloric acid titration?

Since the titration is between a strong acid and a weak base, methylorange should be suitable as the equivalence point is around pH 5. The K of the indicator should be equal to the pH at the end point. Methyl orange is that indicator

Which indicator is used in titration for strong acid?

It depends on the base used. For strong acid vs. strong base, phenolphthalein can be used as indicator. For strong acid vs. weak base, methyl orange can be used as indicator.

What is the colour of methyl orange in alkali?

IN ACID: it turns methyl orange pink In base: it turns methyl orange yellow
