It's not set in stone, but typically people have a genetic predisposition to addiction. This would mean that if you easily became addicted to cigarettes, for example, then it is highly likely that you could easily become addicted to another substance, because you've already demonstrated your genetic predisposition.

This does not mean however that it will necessarily happen. A predisposition just means it can happen more easily to you than others.
