If your talking about you indicator flasher relay I've got a suggestion. I just changed one on a 1999 Cavalier. It was located underneith the drivers side of the dash. It is a little square black relay that might be clipped on up underneith or it my not. It is right out in the open, but you might need a flashlight to get a good look at it. Like I said, this was on a 1999 Cavalier not a 1992 Cavalier. But if there anything alike........... So hopefully this works out for you. If not...... well....... I tried.
there are four nuts located on the hinges disconnect the wiring harness from the door....and remove those nuts. you might need some help with this.
there is no fuel shut off for your cavalier but if you look in the fuse panel inside your car or under the hood you might find a relay or a fuse marked fuel pump and that should shut it off
The thermal relay may be bad.
I read that the 96 cavalier is a non interference engine. Best bet is to call a Chevy dealer or autozone might know. Toyota corollas are non interferance engines. Fords with a sohc 2.0 engine are non interferance. Hondas are interference so are Mitsubishi engines, I learned this the hard way.
it may be the o2 scensor
