most likely there's a leak in your heat exchanger (heater core).
I took my new sportage to the dealer...The smell goes away when using max ac or recirculate...They inspected, pressure tested and found nothing. I believe the reservoir belches fumes and the air intake comes in from the wiper blade area...I am monitoring the reservoir level.
one of two things , #1, low on antifreeze or #2 , heater core plugged up.
replace heater core under dash passenger side

Could be the Purge Control Valve.
stuck thermostat, not enough antifreeze in radiator, leaking hose, are the usual. then it would be blown head gasket, not enough oil in engine, electric fans not coming on.
