try the relays under the fuse box. Mine went and caused similar problems (cost $60 to replace - $600 for Volvo to figure it out)

The head lights have nothing to do with the check engine light.
If you are referring to the engine cover, a crack will hurt nothing. It directs air around the engine to help keep it cool. If you are referring to the valve cover then the crack may allow oil to seep out, and will need to be repaired or replaced.
if you already replaced everything under the hood, u may as well keep going. you have already spent money and should now have as new engine
In case you haven't done so allready, check all the fuses under the hood and in the dash.
is the van getting spark? does the fuel rail have fuel pressure Might want to check your knock sensor if equipped
