To take out, i.e. a patient's Discharge medications.
Patient teaching and information, Med info, any kind of admissions or discharge paper work including medical history such as allergies. There is more but I don't have my book handy.
If the pain does not require medical supervision, yes, hospitals can discharge the patient. When this happens the patient is normally prescribed medication, which they can take at home. Hospitals do not have the space, resources and staff to watch people 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. So if a patient is deemed medically safe to leave the hospital on medication, they can be discharged. Discharges are not made on a whim, they are discussed professionally by doctors and the patient is only discharged if all the doctors in the discussion agree with the discharge.
The discharge time, regardless of how long a person has been in a hospital, is when the physician writes the order. The time between the doctor writing the discharge order, and you getting the discharge orders and instructions (from the nurse) varies, depending on how busy the staff is.
They can, if they think there is nothing severely wrong with you.
