High gear must be ground out, prob needs new transmission
The first cause of the jump out from one to other gear is the loose shifter fork, which connects the shifting linkage and gears of the transmission. The second cause is loose shifting linkage itself, which connects the gear shifting knob and shifting fork. The shifting linkage and shifting fork become loose due to the rapid changing of gears from one gear to other at high speed of vehicle. The third cause is the misalignment of shifting linkage to the shifting fork.
its not if you have overdrive its shifting into it it feels like its down shifting but it really isnt.
While driving my cavalier will shift into high gear for at least a couple of minutes. Shifting gears, giving it gas does not help. Any suggestions?
1 A bent shifting fork from shifting hard 2 a worn bearing inside the transmission high miles or ran low of lube 3 a worn gear 4 hopefully an adjustment on the shifter
Not engaging clutch completely speed shifting ( badly ) Gear grinding Downshifting at high revs shifting without the clutch Anytime the gears are forced together or grind the ears on the syncro are worn down and wont fit together smoothly
Transmission temp sensor can cause a slip or high rpm before shifting to next gear.
It will not harm the transmission to skip a gear (any gear) while up shifting. You go into neutral during each shift, the transmission doesn't know which gear you came out of. The transmission only matches speed to the engine and to the wheels for the gear its in. Be careful during down shifting, you don't want to skip too far ahead and run the RPS's too high.
Make sure you are shifting it at very low idle speed. Outboards have a built in mechanism to keep owners from shifting at too high rpm and damaging the drive train.
its not shifting to the higher gear, that means your transmission is having issues its probably froze up and you need a new one which is very expensive
It either isn't shifting into high gear, or the trans/rear end are geared for that rpm.
bolt pattern is 5x114.3 offset is medium high
Low Engine Temperature, Poor Fuel Mileage, Low Heater Temperature, possibly transmission shifting problems/and or no high gear in Automatics. Fix it!
