2 days later ... we have changed the thermostat, water pump ( it was leaking), drive belt, drained and refilled the system, did a continuity test on the coolant sensor, then was online and found a site about the damage that "DEX Cool" causes and the lawsuits. So we again drained the whole system removed the rad reverse flushed it and foun at our local Lordco automotive an antifreeze that is universal for both regular and Dexcool systems and we added a product that claims to make water wetter and improve coolant by 20 degrees. Finished that all up today and after the refill took the truck and a run on our local backroads (all mountain driving) the engine is still running a little warm for my liking hitting the 112 C range but it never actually overheated. To early for celebrations yet but a vast improvement.
If anyone has any other ideas please let me know
thanksk been another daytook truck on the highway today$100 tow home laterwe BLEW the radand I mean a gaping crack in the side of the radwhat the #@$@crack is about 3 inches long starting at the top driverside and running down the front of the side bar fo the radNOW WHAT!! ??
A couple possibilities are: low coolant level or bad water pump. just based on overheating and no heat, sounds like the thermostat is bad or it could be the water pump thermostat
why is my 1997 chev blazer over heating
Could be a number of reasons. Lack of coolant, clogged heater core, bent radiator fins, bad thermostat, non-functioning engine fan.
There can be many causes of overheating. Clogged radiator, stuck thermostat, inoperable cooling fan, bad water pump, defective radiator cap, air trapped in cooling system, and blown head gasket.

The thermostat on a 2001 Blazer is just inside the larger or upper radiator hose. This hose connects to the front of the engine manifold.
Factory said to use a 195 degree thermostat
The thermostat in the 2002 Blazer will most likely be in the top radiator hose engine inlet, depending on the engine in the vehicle. The top hose is removed then the inlet unbolted to reach the thermostat.
No.
try changing thermostst
Should be a 195 degree.
follow the upper radiator hose to the thermostat housing on engine. Thermostat is located under the thermostat housing.
