Britain claimed lands in North America and was the most successful country in convincing its citizens to migrate to its colonies. This is because the colonies of Britain were prospering more so than Britain's homeland.
Europe colonized the Americas in the 1500s-1800s, however, many people did not move to the colonies of France and Spain, but many people did move to the colonies of the English, as in the Thirteen colonies. The Thirteen colonies were economically prospering and its people had more political freedom than the mother country. If you lived in the colonies, you had a much higher chance of owning property than in the mother country of England. And this is the reason why many people moved to the colonies, specifically large British populations. This is also the reason why the United States came to be a country so early, it had a large population!
In 1607 the British first arrived in Jamestown and created the there first settlement.
