After what I've read there is only 3 ways to leave a gang:
1 You die.
2. Your girlfriend have a baby and you can leave because you have to take care of them but this might not be for all of them.
3. You take a beating from them which can kill you.
A gang is not a family. They say it is but it is not. A family would protect you and not ask you to confess to a crime you did not do and go to prison for years for another member just because you joined later then he did. They would not ask you to take a life or hurt people. Your life will no longer belong to you. Fighting with other gangs put your real family in danger. The world is huge and there is nothing that says you have to stay there the rest of your life. If you join a gang you can not just leave because you feel like it.

∙ 15y agoPeople join gangs to have a feeling of being part of a "family". Often in the worlds of gang violence its join a side or be killed. some people join for the money that can be made by "pimping" or selling drugs. The gangs offer protection for them while selling drugs. If rival gangs try to move in on territory to sell their drugs, it often turns into killing of the rival gangs.

∙ 8y agoOne should not join a gang because they could end up shooting people they are related to. I heard of 2 hispanic gang members going to jail in 1993 for shooting people they were related to. One of the gang members was 16 yrs old, and he shot a 16 yr old kid turned out the kid he shot was his cousin. The other hispanic was 17 yrs old he shot a lady during a robbery, It turned out the lady he shot was his aunt. Those 2 gang members did not know their dads and the relatives were from their dads family. They both went to jail. My dad has kids from other women. I don't know my half siblings. In 2001 I was 23 yrs old. I had an encounter with a 16 yr old gang member who happened to be my half brother. He tried to rob me, and I noticed he looked like my dad. I realized he was my half brother. I told him i think it's odd he's trying to rob me cause I think we're related. I started telling him about our dad. . He did not deny that we had the same dad. He told me he was sorry. He seemed to be bothered by the incident. I could tell he felt guilty about trying to rob family. I found out days later he left the gang cause of the incident.
