If you mean versus a diesel, it is because the diesel parts need to stand up to higher cylinder pressures of a diesel engine. The engine needs to have thicker cylinder walls, deck, pistons, connecting rods, crank which all added up. Most big diesels still use cast iron block for the added strength, which can be 150+lbs heavier. for example:
12v 5.9L cummins: 975lbs
24v 5.9L cummins: 1,150lbs.
Dodge 5.9L gas :650lbs

try putting petrol in
WHAT ARE THE BASIC PARTS OF PETROL ENGINE? HOW DOES PETROL ENGINE WORKS?
petrol light brown, diesel light green
Petrol in a diesel engine will destroy the engine.
A petrol (gasoline) engine can be an otto cycle engine or it may not be. Click the link.
Gottelieb made an engine that ran on petrol.
Who told you it is harmful? It is only harmful if it is a Diesel engine. If it is a petrol (gasoline) engine then Petrol is what it takes to run.
petrol is there, spark also the but on the dash i dont see a check engine light when i switch the car ON
A diesel engine is heavier than a petrol engine because some parts in a diesel engine are made from cast iron such as cylinder sleeves etc. The weight difference is usually between 10-20kgs.
If you use Petrol or Gasoline in a Diesel engine you will destroy that engine. That is why you do not use it.
No, a diesel is a compression firing engine and a petrol is a spark firing engine. Diesel fuel will not burn in a petrol engine with spark plugs.
