This is a broad question however here are some examples of how politics affects learning. Consider "learning" as an educational system. The system used for the answer to the question is a city with elementary schools and high schools. Students may enhance, expand, and succeed in learning more in an educational system that has good teachers. Very importantly the teachers are supported by an educational administration that wants its students and its teachers to have the tools needed to foster a great educational system.

Such a system will have teachers paid at competitive salaries in order to attract and retain qualified teachers. The system should also have these features:

A. Classes that are small enough so that teachers can effectively communicate with the students and offer extra help to them. This can happen in classes that are small in student population.

B. The system must provide high quality text books with the latest information available.

C. The system must have a library where students can read books to supplement their text books.

D. The building facilities for the schools must be well maintained. Heating and air conditioning as required by the locations climate.

E. In all student cases, promoting students to the next grade or level must be based on the students' test scores, quality of their homework and attendance.

F. Promoting unqualified students in the long run will only hurt them and diminish the quality of the educational system.

G. If this means extra attention from the teaching staff, or special classes to enhance the teaching in the regular classes. It also means that the teachers really want to help their students.

H. Support from the parents of the students at their homes and in organizations such as Parent-Teachers organizations (PTA )

I. Providing gym classes to insure that the bodies ANDthe minds of the students are in good health.

J. Providing teachers with incentives to further their own educations. Such as paying for the tuition of teachers seeking higher level educational degrees.

( qualifications must be drawn up for this )

K. The system must be assured that teachers are doing their best by having them take exams just as the students do.

L. All this takes taxpayer funding, therefore, the systems administration needs to justify with the local school boards or state departments of education why and where the funding is necessary.

Where does Politics come in? The teachers and the administration along with the school boards must politicallyagree that the maximum effort must be made to create a fine educational system. Not everyone involved has the politicalbelief that the maximum efforts are needed for a good school system. The quality of education offered to students means that tax payers, school administrators and teachers share the general belief ( political belief ) that education helps the students and the community. Without that political commitment the quality of education offered may be reduced.
