The oxygen carrier in most mammalian blood is iron - oxygenated iron is red. In the old TV show "Star Trek", Mr. Spock's Vulcan blood was green, because in Vulcan blood, the oxygen carrier was copper - and coppers oxides are green.

Are red and white and light purple a blood cell?

Mammals only have red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets. Platelets may appear purple under the microscope because of the stains used - but they are not referred to as 'purple blood cells'. Some white blood cells (eg. neutrophils and eosinophils) may also appear pink and/or light purple when stained with conventional stains (eg. H&E stain) - the nucleus is usually the most purple area of these cells. However, they are still white blood cells (despite looking pink/purple).

Red blood cells need oxygen. Oxygen is what gives blood that bright red color. When blood is lacking oxygen, it turns dark and that's why people turn purple or blue.

Is blood purple?

No, blood is never blue. This was a misconception made by the fact that veins appear to be blue because of how light reflects off the veins from under the layer of subcutaneous fat that absorbs the rest of the light waves. Deoxygenated blood is a dark deep red and oxygenated blood is more of a bright red. Blood cells get their color from hemoglobin which is red in color. If a person were to take away the layer of skin from the vessel they would see that both veins and arteries are a similar translucent vessel.
