You should only use a 5w during the winter months or months when it's cold.

The lower the first number, the thinner the oil is. Oil thickens when the temperature drops and a higher viscosity rating might make the engine hard to start when it's cold.

The second number rates how fast the oil thins as the engine heats up. The lower the number, the faster it thins. So during hotter months, a higher second number is preferred so the oil doesn't get too thin with the heat from the outside and the heat from the engine.

1995 Ford Explorer has used for almost 19 years now , that's what Ford

recommends for those particular vehicles )
