Why should anyone study history?

History is a subjet that is valued by employers in all aspects of carrer employment. It is said that WE as a society are history. What if the Americans had lost the American Revolution, or if countries like New Zealand or Australia had not been found? Taking History helps you in descision making too. Whether small time Buisnessman or World Leader, looking back on the past is the way to see whether what we're about to do is good, or if it has succededadn mabye there are better ways of doing things. History isn't exatly everyones cup of tea but it is a subject that educates the present about the past for the better of the future. Happy Learning!
Why do we study history? 1. To understand the present. History provides us with a better understanding of the present and we will be able to understand the changes which have taken place in our nation and in the world, so as to know how the past has shaped the present. 2. To create an awareness for our ancestral heritage. Our beliefs, knowledge and way of life can be traced back to our forefathers; studying history helps us learn about our roots and ancestral heritage, so as to understand ourselves better. 3. To be able to think critically and analytically. Studying history helps us differentiate between facts and opinions, allows us to be aware of prejudice and biases and enables us to question or determine the accuracy of what is being read and heard. 4. To create a sense of national identity. Learning our nation's history helps us to develop a sense of national identity, learn about times of difficulties, the sufferings and hardships faced by our forefathers and ancestors, and thus learn to appreciate the times of peace. The sense of nationhood will boost loyalty and promote a sense of belonging to the country. 5. To learn from lessons in the past. By studying history, we will learn not to repeat mistakes of the past, learn about the achievements of past civilisations, leadership qualities of historical personalities and desirable social values and personal attributes of certain historical personalities. Provides valuable guidance which helps us to improve the present and the future. 6. To understand how people think and feel-Empathy. We will be able to learn about the thoughts and beliefs of people in other communities, to appreciate and understand their actions and feelings and to be sensitive to their feelings and in turn live harmoniously with them. Good relations between and among countries can also be promoted.
