There are a variety of reasons different marine species are endangered, but most of them have to do with pollution or invasive species - for example, in The Florida Keys, lionfish pose a serious threat to most if not all native species of fish because they have no predators in that section of the world, other than humans, who haven't found the fish tasty enough to bring the price of them high enough to cover the expense of eradicating them yet(though they are quite tasty). Also in the Keys, the poster child for endangered habitats, the toxins leeched by the tree roots in the everglades are killing the coral. It used to be filtered by Florida's limestone, but is not anymore, as the Army Corps of Engineers cut channels through the limestone in the mid 20th century to control flooding, bypassing the natural filters.
