People should prepare emergency kits because when an earthquake appears, you don't have the time to collect your items you need with you. You have to be quick and not get an bunch of stuff!
People living in an earthquake zone should always be prepared. There are no warnings of a pending quake. You should have your well stocked kit or box in your car or in a place where all members of your family can get to quick. When a earthquake hits you may only have a few seconds. Develop a plan to get out side to a safe area where your kit is available.

It is COMPLETELY important. For example, there's an earthquake. You didn't prepare for it. You would be dead by now. Preparing gives you an opportunity

to be safe just in case a major disaster comes up. You would be able to escape from danger.

HOW TO PREPARE FOR DISASTERS/EMERGENCIES:

  • Always keep a first aid kit in handy. If there's a disaster or emergency and someone got hurt, you can help them with a first aid kit. A first aid kit would provide you bandages, gloves, glow sticks, medicine, etc.
  • Buy canned foods. If you ran out of food, you can eat canned food. Canned food is preserved for a purpose, so it could last longer.
  • Keep medications and etc. in a safe place. You don't want to lose your driver's licence. You never know whenever you need those stuff.

Because they happen without warning.
You might not have things like food and water and blankets
So have them ready just in case.

Also, have an out of state contact because local phones might not work.

One good idea many people use is to purchase an earthquake kit. They have food and water and first aid supplies too.

Also, prepare your house. Things might shake but you can prevent damage by doing things like strapping a water heater. And fragile things can be help in place with earthquake putty.

All of this can save you a lot of time and hardship if an earthquake occurs.
BE PREPARED!

an earthquake kit contains all you will need, should a natural disaster like terrorists, hurricanes, tsunamis or, oh i dunno, an EARTHQUAKE keep the people in your residence inside for an extended period of time.

Another answer.

After a major earthquake, you may find yourself without the day to day necessities, which are taken for granted for a while. They provide emergency supplies such as first aid, food, water/water purification tablets, blankets and a torch (flashlight), depending what you have in them, to keep you going for up to a week.
