There are a number of reasons for schools to require uniforms. None of them has anything to do with greed.

Schools that require uniforms do so to:

  • Reduce the total crime rate.
  • Reduce violent assaults between students.
  • Reduce incidents of vandalism.
  • Eliminate social and peer pressure related to trendy expensive clothing.
  • Help students focus on studies rather than become distracted with fitting in.
  • Create an environment of uniformity that helps develop esprit de corps among students.
  • Help lower income families cope better by limiting school clothing to the less expensive alternative of uniforms.
