The freedom to dress the way you want falls under the heading of the pursuit of happiness. Unless there is some important issue of the public good that is involved, people should be allowed to live their own lives as they see fit. That has always been part of the American way of life. I see no reason why other people should be allowed to tell me how to dress, and I extend the same freedom of choice even to humble students.

In reality dress code in schools are not as strict as they once were. When I was in high school girls couldn't wear pants or shorts to school. Boys had to have dress pants and shirts. A uniform strongly limits what you can wear to School. Such as Khaki Pants, a Belt, and a polo t-shirt. A dress code is just an appropriate form of clothes you can wear to school. Such as shirts that don't depict vulgar and obscene scenes.
