Without taxes, government has no substantial source of income. Be it income tax, corporate tax, sales tax, or any of the multitude of others, they allow there to be money that can be used for government projects, paying the salaries of our leaders, entitlement programs, ect (that took me about three minutes from the time that the question appeared).
