Why should the KKK be illegal?

Answer: Racism isn't illegal where I am from. I don't believe it should be illegal either. I see no problem with thinking a race is better than another because in the end there are races that are better. Any two things you have that are different are either better or worse than the other.

Answer: Racism in itself shouldn't be illegal simply because everyone should be entitled to think how they feel; however, any two things one might have that are different does not mean one is better or worse than the other.

Racism itself shouldn't be illegal. It is just an opinion, albeit a distasteful one. What should be illegal is acting upon racism in an illegal manner. There is quite a difference between having a low opinion of someone of a particular race and actively discriminating against them or resorting to bodily harm.

Everyone should have the right to education, housing, employment and medical care. Everyone should have the right to walk the streets, use public transportation, and be in public, all without being harassed or targeted with violence. So it should be illegal to attempt to deprive anyone of these rights, regardless of their race or other identifiable group. Interfering with anyone's safe and equal access to any public service should be illegal.

Now, saying that racism itself should not be illegal is not the same as saying there should be no consequences. However, that would be on the civil level, not the government level. If a newscaster says something racist, the network has the right to fire the newscaster. Nobody has to purchase the albums of racist musicians or watch shows hosted by racist comedians. A person who is traumatized by certain racist statements can attempt to sue the specific racists in court. Even a site like this has the legal right to block posters who openly exhibit racism.

Under the constitution we all have the right to peacefully assemble, unless the KKK is doing something illegal they are in full legal right.
