There is one true Church because too often the Christ of our personal faith bears little resemblance to the Jesus of history or to the Christ of the Faith. We, often, make of Jesus Christ what we would like him to be for us. Consequently, he no longer challenges us from the outside to conform to him. We rather project on him all that we would like to be; that is that we make Jesus to be a self-affirming image..., which is not the Jesus of The Bible, who challenges us to change and conform to his divine standards - not our self centered human standards. Hence, the Church, he founded, challenges us to be Christ-like and live accordingly. Besides Jesus prayed, in John 17:22...so that they may all be one, as you, Father, are in me and I in you...i.e. The One True Church...who challenges us to be Christ like.

The epistle contains some clearly stated items about practical religion, including the important advice in chapter 1 that if a person lacks wisdom, he should ask God for help (James 1: 5-6. There can only be one true church and the passages in James will help you know if the first answer is true. Id like to argue differently than the two above me. I would say that the only true church is the one you personally follow and believe in.
