Blowing your nose can actually cause mucus to go back up into your sinus cavities and into your Eustachian tubes, causing more irritations and possible infection in your sinuses or ears. If you HAVE to blow your nose just blow gently and try not to put a ton of pressure into it, i.e, don't blow so hard your ears pop. Don't hold one nostril closed and blow forcefully out of the other side, either, this also raises the pressure.
Use of saline nasal spray to clear your nasal passages is recommended by most health care professionals in these situations. Follow the label directions for use. There are also nasal irrigations you can use for this, one brand with all needed equipment is called Netti Pot.
