So unless you stand very close and breathe in immediately after they cough or sneeze, then you will not catch it that way in the air. It is recommended that you stand six feet away from someone with the disease if possible.
There are masks that will filter the virus that is sub-microscopic, called N95, but they are very uncomfortable and must be fitted precisely and medical professional fitting initially is recommended. They can provide a false sense of security and the virus can pass around the mask into your mouth or nose if the mask is not fitted properly. They must be changed frequently when they get wet from respirations, since they become ineffective when wet.
