Why do the Irish not wear green on St. Patrick's Day?

Because orange is the colour of Northern Ireland and they use that colour in the march they have every year. They are part of Britain. Unlike the republic of Ireland (Southern) where green is the colour associated with us. St.Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland although the 17th of March is celebrated all over the world especially in America.

In the 1798 Rebellion Irish Catholics wore green, the English Protestants wore orange.

In the first through fourteenth centuries, the Roman Empire in the conquest of Gaul, Britannia, and Northern Europe aggressively campaigned against the druids and wiccans. The druids would ceremonially dye their faces, hands and clothes with indigo from woad.

St. Patrick was a missionary to Ireland in the 5th century and tried to convert the pagan natives. It is unlikely that he caused or endorsed violence against the pagans or their clergy (the druids). It is also unlikely that he would have espoused violence against other religions.

Wearin green on Saint Patrick's Day was started by American's that didn't know the real meaning of the day. They thought since it was an Irish holiday and Ireland is the Emerald Isle, that green just fit with the day. The color green has absolutely nothing to do with Saint Patricks day.
