Calamine, which is zinc oxide and ferric oxide dissolved in mineral oils.
By poison ivy lotion I take it you mean a calamine lotion like caladryl. It contains carbolic acid, zinc oxide (ZnO) , and ferric oxide (Fe2O3), none of which is a pure element.
calamine lotion has a base named zinc carbonate
The scientific name for calamine is zinc oxide (ZnO).
Calamine, lanolin and aloe vera are ok.
Ferric oxide gives calamine its characteristic pink color.
I don't know if there is a white Calamine lotion, but there is a clear calamine lotion. It is super clear and once you put it on it just looks a little shiny, kind of like clear nail polish. The only downside is that it doesn't work as well as the pink calamine does.
Plenty of major retailers and pharmacies carry the product in stores. Wal-Mart sells a type of lacto calamine called Humco: Skin Protectant Calamine Lotion.
Active Ingredient: Calamine, ZincInactive ingredients: Bentonite, Magma, Calcium Hydroxide, Glycerin and Purified Water. It should be noted in 1992 that the FDA released a study showing that Calamine lotion has no scientifically testable results to show it relieves any symptoms of itching or rashes. The lotion itself is largely considered to be a "dinosaur" of dermatology and no longer in major use.
Depends on what your skin type is. If your skin is sensitive you might see red marks on your body or develope a serious rash. If you buy a lotion product that contains some ingredient that yu might be allergic to then yes you can be allergic to the lotion.
