It was rereleased as Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cutfor the Nintendo GameCube in 2003, and later for the PC. It included new features like Mission Mode and Game Gear games.
It was rereleased for the XBox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network in 2010 as Sonic Adventure, and the Director's Cut features were released as a DLC.

Do the first two Sonic Advance games take place before Sonic Adventure?
Whilst debatable due to Cream's cameo in Sonic Adventure DX, I would say no, both the games are set after Sonic Adventure. Whilst Cream does indeed appear in Sonic Adventure's re-release, it was only for a short moment, and she has no contact with Sonic whatsoever. On top of that, when they meet in Sonic Advance 2, it is shown that despite her knowing of him, Sonic himself has never seen her before. Because of this, I would assume that Sonic Advance 1 and 2 take place after Sonic Adventure.

You can't. Metal Sonic first appeared on Sonic CD, which came out after Sonic the Hedgehog.If you are talking about the Sonic 06 game, you can't unlock him there, either. The only came he can be unlocked on is Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut.
