The Carnot's heat engine is an ideal heat engine. In this process the source has infinite thermal heat capacity and the temperature of the source is constant( when we take large amount of heat from the source but it has same temperature ) .This is one assumption. The sink is also this condition means if it gain maximum heat energy from the source the temperature of the sink is also constant . this is another assumption. Ideal gas works as working substance(system).

enclose in a cylinder whose walls and piston are perfectly adiabatic and base is perfectly diathermic.conversion of heat to work is an irriversible process but in carnot's heat engine it is possible.the initial temparature of system is infinite it is depend on temparature of the system.

the perfect ideal gas and the perfect insulators are not exist so this process is only assumption.

there is no heat engine which has more efficiency than the carnot's heat engine

How do you calculate coal usage to produce 1 MW power?

First in order to calculate the heat content of a particular type of coal, an ultimate analysis must be done. Then the combustion efficiency of the coal must be calculated, the boiler efficiency is then determined by a boiler "acceptance test", or heat balance. The steam is then run through an engine driving a generator to determine the total plant efficiency thus determining how much coal is burned to produce a set amount of electricity. Several publications on Steam power plant operation explain these efficiency tests in more detail.

Why a high-efficiency machine is more desirable than a low- efficiency machine?

High-efficiency machines do more for less and are therefore more desirable than a low-efficiency machine.AnswerHigher efficiency means lower energy losses and, therefore, such machines are more economical than low-efficiency machines.

How much power is required by a 1 horsepower motor?

1 horsepower is the output power - the power produced. The power it uses is more, because no engine is 100% efficient. How much more, depends on the type of engine; an explosion engine (such as one that uses gasoline) is basically a heat engine, with an efficiency of perhaps 1/3; that means that about three times the output power is actually consumed. For an electrical motor, the required electricity will be only a little more than 1 horsepower (about 742 watts running current, more when the motor is getting started).

How does mass effect efficiency?

The mass affects the efficiency of an object. It adds more weight, which causes more friction. More friction=less efficiency

Why can't mechanical efficiency be over 100 percent?

The mechanical efficiency can't be over 100% because a type of energy is always lost. For example, it can be lost as heat, sound or even light. When you use a light bulb, it produces light, but heat is lost in the process. See what I mean! In most cases, heat is lost due to friction. the work put out by a machine is always less than the work put into a machine to do the work. Therefore no machine is 100% efficient. As well.... Efficiency is (power out/power in) x 100. To get an efficiency of *more* than 100%, the machine must give more power out than is put in. No machine has ever been demonstrated that does this, and until someone can show this result (power out *more* than power in), we know that any machine has an efficiency less than 100%.

What is the difference between cofficient of performance and efficiency?

The COP can be more that one since the heat transferred can be more than power required by the refrigerator but the efficiency can never be more than one since the power generated by engine cannot be more than the total heat content of the fuel.

Why efficiency of heat engine is more in winter as compare to summer?

Because a thermal engine efficiency is directly linked to the difference of the temperature of the gases involved .As the gasoline burns at a set temperature , the lower winter temp helps to widen the temp differential between the ignited gasoline and exaust. Unfortunatley the colder air is more dense and generate more drag than in summer , more than negating the increased engine efficiency. To put it in rough numbers , you may get 0.5% more engine efficiency but you lose some 4% more to extra drag.

Why does adding oil increases efficiency?

The purpose of adding oil to a car i to lubricate the engine. if the engine is not lubricated there will be much more friction between gears and friction generates heat. because energy is needed to create heat that energy is taken away from the energy that would be propelling the car forward. this causes the efficiency yo drop.

Is the volumemetric efficiency of diesel engine more than a petrol engine?

Yes

Does it take more diesel in a 2liter engine than a 1.9liter engine?

That depends on the efficiency of the engine.

Why efficiency of rankine cycle is more in winter than in summer?

there is more heat loss..

How does compression ratio affect engine efficiency and performance?

Engine efficiency is increased though compression ratio by allowing a more thermodynamic energy to be converted into mechanical energy. Energy transfer is the key to efficiency.

Is seer or hspf more important?

It depends what you use more, A/C or heat. The SEER rating pertains to cooling efficiency. The HSPF pertains to heating efficiency.

How does engine size effect fuel efficiency?

The larger the engine and the more cylinders it has the more fuel is "injected" into the cylinders ising more fuel

What does the word seer stand for when inquiring about heat pumps?

Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio - the higher the number = more energy efficiency of the unit
