Camera flashes use a capacitor because a capacitor can dump a lot of electrical energy very quickly. Much faster than a battery. That's how to produce a quick flash by using a capacitor that suddenly discharges the electricity.

How is a capacitor used in a disposable flash camera?

A disposable flash camera uses a capacitor to power the flash unit, employing an electronic circuit to charge a large capacitor. The flash needs several hundred volts to operate, far higher than the camera's battery can provide. The electronic circuit builds voltage in the capacitor, which then powers the flash

Does a camera flash cause fantail oranda goldfish to go blind?

no acording to recent studies a camera flash commonly causes intense orgasms.

How does a camera flash work?

With older cameras, flashbulbs or flash cubes were used. Then, strobes were developed that used a flash tube. This gave almost limitless flashes. These work by using a battery to charge a capacitor. When the voltage on the capacitor is high enough, it is fed to a xenon (or similar) flash tube, which then fires, giving a very short duration, high intensity flash. It then takes a small amount of time for the capacitor to recharge, before it is ready for the next flash. Some cameras use a dual flash, which has an LED flash as well as a xenon flash.

What is the use of capacitors in a camera flash?

In any flashgun there is a capacitor which stores a large amount of energy. When the flash is triggered the energy is discharged through the flash tube. I once had a Metz flash and made the mistake of touching the pins inside. Got a nasty shock!

How many times can you use a camera flash circuit to launch a coilgun projectile?

Given that the battery connected to the camera flash circuit has sufficient energy and that the circuit has no malfunctions, you can use the camera flash circuit indefinitely. Although disposable camera flash circuits are not designed to withstand continuous use, many hobbyist have used them to charge capacitor banks of relatively large size. One problem to consider for using camera flash circuits is its fixed voltage output and the relatively high output impedance leading to long charging times. If you are satisfied with the operations of a camera flash circuit, by all means, go for it. Although, personally I would suggest using a boost converter circuit to charge a capacitor bank at a variable voltage and a much much faster rate. You can learn about them and how to build one at the following links. EE ftw! http://uzzors2k.googlepages.com/boost_converter http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boost_converter

How does the flash on the camera work?

The flash contains three basic parts. First is something that produces light. Today that's almost always a flashtube, but there have been bulbs containing little pieces of magnesium foil and pans of a flammable powder called "flash powder." Underwater photographers still use flashbulbs because you can get ones that put out far more light than flashtubes are capable of. Second is a source of power. Flashes can be powered by batteries or AC power. And third is a capacitor. This is a component that can store electricity and discharge it all extremely quickly. Because this needs to be semi-short let's just assume you have a battery-operated flash with a flashtube in it. When you turn the flash on, you'll hear a little buzzing sound as the flash's power source charges the capacitor. It will store the charge until it is needed. When your camera tells the flash to work, it will dump all the electricity in the capacitor into the flashtube. A big arc will happen inside the tube, which is filled with Xenon gas. When Xenon is exposed to this arc, it will get excited and give off a lot of light. After this happens, the flash will recharge the capacitor and wait for you to take another flash picture.
