Best Answer

because without his katana(even weilding another person's katana), the samurai is nothing compared to a samurai with his own katana. the katana is specially forged for the particular samurai, and so it is very valuable to their identity.

During the Feudal era of Japan Katanas were created as a lethal weapon used by their elite cast of warriors, the Samurai. Such weapons were also created because of the lack of high quality iron on the Japanese iron, most of their iron was very carbon rich, which caused the metal to "bend" into that teardrop form you see in Katanas today. Famous katana makes are Masumane and Muramasa.

Katana swords evolved from original Japanese Tachi sword which was very similar to katana but it was more curved sword and it was used by mounted samurais.

A katana is a type of sword that originated in the Muromachi Period (1392-1573) in Japan. Although the Katana is classified as the single edged blade used by the Samurai, it actually can refer to any single edged blade.

It is often a curved, slender, single-edged blade with circular or squared tsuba.
