Prophet Mohammad went to Madina (known as Yathrib at that time) because the rich tribes of Makkah were plotting to kill him. he came to know of their plot and with his companion Abu Bakr, he went to Madina. The Islamic calander begins from this date. On the contrary, the people of Madina were inviting the Prophet to come to their city to preach Islam-the religion of Adam, Abraham, Moses and Jesus. ======================================================= this cite helps me in history class a lot
