Thicker paper is good for printing for several reasons. Two reasons are that it has a better feel and the final product may last longer than thin paper. Additionally, it usually looks better.

Heavy weight paper is actually thicker paper. Paper comes in lb. If you read your printer manual it will tell you what weight paper you can use. For instance it may say 24 lb or 28 lb etc. the bigger the lb the heavier the paper (or thicker the paper).
